At the Greencastle 5-Mile in Co Tyrne, reigning national intercounty champion Paul Pollock of Annadale Striders recorded a solid victory over Mullingar’s Martin Fagan.
In Wicklow, Garreth Murran of Sportsworld scored the best result of his career when he won the Streets of Wicklow 5km. American scholarship student Tara Jameson, who started her career with organising club Inbhear Dee,
was a comfortable winner of the women’s race.
Weather conditions were truly horrible on St Stephen’s day in the Dublin area, with John Frazer of Crusaders braving the elements to win the Clonliffe Christmas Cracker 5km. Irish junior intercounty champion Hope Saunders of the host club was first woman.
In Newtownforbes, Co Longford, Catherina McKiernan finished ninth overall and first woman at the Shane Brennan 5km. Cian O’Reilly was the race winner.
