Round-Up: Christie Jingles to Victory

Mullingar’s Mark Christie led home close to 1,200 finishers at the 23rd annual Jingle Bells 5km, organised by Donore Harriers in the Phoenix Park. Christie’s time of 14 mins 22 secs put him comfortably clear of MSB’s John Coghlan, with Eoin Everard from Kilkenny third and Colm Rooney of Clonliffe fourth in a high-quality race, well supported by club runners.

Michelle McGee of Brothers Pearse, who  is making quite a name for herself having finished  10th at the National Intercounties,   was first woman in 16 mins 54 secs.  mountain running international Kate Cronin and her Raheny clubmate Fiona Roche finished second and thrid, followed by Leona O’Reilly of Liffey Valley .

In Clonakilty, another race well supported by club runners, Sergiu Ciobanu of Clonliffe and Lizzie Lee of Leevale won the half marathon, while Gary O’Hanlon of Clonliffe and Scottish visitor Joasia Zakrzewski were first home in the marathon.

* Pauline Curley was the overall winner of  the Edenderry 10km.
