Dublin Juvenile League

Dublin Juvenile League

News not great from the Rotterdam Marathon: Brian Maher, Maria McCambridge,  and Ailish Malone all dropped out. First Irish finisher was Tom Hogan of SBR in 2 hrs 28 mins 38 secs, with Raheny’s Barbara Sanchez ninth overall and best of the Irish women.

In the Phoenix Park, Linda Byrne of DSD won the Woodie’s DIY National 10km title in a time of 34 mins 24 secs.  On a blustery day that made a tough course even tougher, she was followed home Raheny’s Elish Kelly and Teresa McGloin from Finn Valley. Taking the men’s Irish title was England-based Stephen Scullion in  30 mins 16 sec, with Clonliffe’s Sergiu Ciobanu second and Annadale’s  Eddie McGinley third. Just over 6,000 completed the 10km course.

Winning the Spar Mile that took place as part of the Spar Great Ireland Run was Paul Robinson of St Coca’s in 4 mins 14 secs. Kilkenny’s Eoin Everard was second in 4:16 with 17-year-old David Harper from Sligo third in 4:18.

Ethiopia’s Kenenise Bekele and Britain’s  Lauren Haworth won the men and women’s international invitational races.

* Bryan Keane has finished second in the World Cup Triathlon in Ishigaki, Japan, despite a crash on the cycle stage. Keane finished in 1 hour 53 mins 50 secs; just over a minute behind the winner Ryan Fisher of Australia and 12 seconds clear of another Aussie, Dan Wilson. A week ago, Keane crashed out of the World Cup event in Auckland New Zealand.

* Irish international athlete Alistair Cragg has joined the coaching staff at Brown university in Providence, Rhode Island. A three-times Irish Olympian, Cragg was a 13-time All-American and seven-time NCAA champion while a student at Arkansas.

* Great turn-out from clubs at the first Dublin Juvenile Track and Field League round in Tallaght. Some pics at www.lindie.zenfolio.com
