Round-Up: Record for Mark English, PB for Britton. Tallaght Double at The Lakes 10k

Mark English  of UCD finished second in the 600m at the Flame Games in Amsterdam, with his time of 1 min 15.71 secs breaking his own Irish record  for this rarely run distance. Kenya’s Alfred Kipketer won  the race in 1:15.60.   On a chilly evening for athletics, Clonliffe’s Brian Gregan finished fourth in the 400m in 46.91. secs. On the roads, Fionnuala Britton McCormack of Kilcoole ran a  personal best 71:33 at the Lille Half Marathon in France. Kenya’s Peninah Arusei won the race in 68 mins 56 secs.

Thomas Fitzpatrick and Laura McDonnell made it a Tallaght double at the Lakes 10km in Blessington.  Raheny Shamrock athletes finished second in both races.  Fitzpatrick won the race in 30 mins 27, finishing well clear of Mark Kirwan, while in the women’s race, McDonnell was chased hard by  Annette Kealy.LIN_0959

Brian McCluskey  of North East Runners and  Mary Leech of Drogheda and District were the winners of the Seamie Weldon 5km in Ardee.  In Killarney, almost 2,000 turned out  for the Dingle Marathon and Half Marathon. Winners of the marathon were Eoin Surgue in 2 hrs 39 mins 25 secs and Scottish visitor Joanne Thom  in 3:27.39; in the half marathon,  John Meade  in 74 mins 24 secs and Mary O’Donnell 86 mins 33 secs were first home.
