Dublin’s Kenyan contingent had a useful workout at the Coca Cola HBC Foroige 5km in Blanchardstown. Peter Brandon Somba came home in first in 14 mins 54 secs, just beating Raheny’s Mick Clohisey, with Lezan Kimutai third and Josephine Killeen first woman. The Kenyans will run next Sunday’s SSE Airtricity Walled City Marathon in Derry, along with Gideon Kimosop and Vincent Chepyegan of Project Kenya, who are based in Omagh. Also pencilled in is defending champion Freddy Keron Sittuk of Raheny, who won the Limerick Marathon earlier this month in 2:26 mins 38 secs.
Winning the Newry Half Marathon was Michelle McGee of DSD who has been keeping a low profile recently. Her time of 78 mins 28 secs gave her a four minute margin on the chasers. Winning the Newry 10km was Paddy Hamilton in 31 mins 51 secs. In Youghal, Sergiu Ciobanu of Clonliffe was a comfortable winner of the Emer Casey Foundation 10km in 30 mins 24 secs.
