Simon Ryan of host club Raheny Shamrock was a clear winner of the annual Tommy Lynam Memorial Raheny Midsummer 4-mile held in St Anne’s Park. Ryan’s time of 19 mins 52 secs put him comfortably clear of his club mates Brian Leahy and Ian Conroy. Maria Dolan of Rathfarnham WSAF was seventh overall and first women, with Raheny’s Annette Kealy second. A large group of walkers, headed by former RTE newscaster Anne Doyle, completed the course for the Childline charity. Pics at www.lindie.zenfolio.com.
FREDDY KERON SITTUK beat Rathfarnham’s Sean Hehir to win the 10th annual Mick Murphy Memorial 4-Mile race in Ferns in 19 mins 10 secs. Hehir was 13 seconds adrift, with Tom Hogan of SBR third. First woman was Kilmore’s Jackie Carthy in 24 mins 10 secs.
AT THE FIRST TYMON PARKRUN, Brian Purcell and Sandra Armstrong led home 160 finishers. Tymon is the seventh Parkrun to have started in the greater Dublin area since it all began in Malahide Castle on 10 November 2012 – two and a half years ago. Marlay remains the most popular, probably because it coincides with a very popular farmers’ market; Malahide also continues to attract big numbers with its Avoca restaurant. Some of us still find the 9.30am start a bit of a stretch!
