Reynolds Runs World A Time for 110m Hurdles

Ben Reynolds has run World Championships A mark of 13.49 secs for the 110m hurdles at the Mary Peters Track Opening Invitational in Belfast easily beating Julian Ortiz Morena of Spain, who ran 14.02.  Reynold’s time is just 0.19 off Peter Coghlan’s Irish record.

In a Northern Ireland double, Lisburn’s Amy Foster won the women’s 100m in 11.49, comfortably beating Sarah Adams from Scotland who finished in 11.89 secs, while Derry’s Jason Smyth  beat Liverpool’s Oliver Back to win the men’s race  in 10.50. Adam McMullen  was fourth in 10.87.

Newly minted Irish woman Jennifer Carey of DSD won the women’s 400m in 54.34, just making it by a thread ahead of  clubmate Sinead Denny who clocked 54.35. Lagan Valley’s Mandy Gault was third in 54.61. Finishing sixth in 56.47 was UCD’s Ciara Everard, who has been battling injury and missed last weekend’s European Team Championships. Jason Harvey of Crusaders finished third in the men’s 400m in 47.68.

In the women’s 800m, promising Newry junior Aislinn Crossey finished fifth in 2:06.43; the race was won in 2:04.80 by Kelly Hetherington of Australia. Best of the Irish in the men’s race was Karl Griffin of Tir Chonaill, sixth in 1:50.71 and just ahead of Darragh Green 1:50.88.

Paul Robinson who wasn’t  available for the European Team competition in Santry, finished a close second in the 1500m in 3:37.66. Winner was Collis Birmingham of Australia in 3:37.18. John Coghlan of MSB was third in 3:42.97 and John Travers of Donore fourth in 3:43.24. Over 3000m, StephenScullion finished third in 8:13.46, with Annadale’s Eddie McGinley fourth in 8:17.02.
