A team from Raheny Shamrock lead from the start of the Wicklow Way Relay from Kilmashogue to Shillelagh and ended up comfortable winners in 7 hours 6 minutes. In second place was Rathfarnham WSAF, with a Munster team of adventure races, including Tim O’Donoghue who ran a record 76 minutes for the 21km leg, finishing third.
Of the 35 teams that started, all but one finished – and they may even have made it after an injury problem on the 21km seventh leg.
Meanwhile, some seven runners had set off at midnight to run the entire Wicklow Way solo from Marlay Park to Clonegal. Eoin Keith, the current record holder, came home first smashing his own course record with a brilliant time of 12 hrs 25 mins 7 secs – the first sub- 13 hour time. Last July, Eoin ran the route south to north in 13 mins 6 secs. Paul Tierney ran the North to South route in May 2011, clocking a time of 13:38.51.
