Pollock Runs 62:09 at World ‘Half’; McCambridge Wins in Omagh

LIN_5436Paul Pollock of Annadale Striders ran a superb new personal best time of 62 mins 9 secs to finished 30th at the World Half Marathon Championships in Copenhagan. The race was won by Kenya’s Geoffrey Kipsang Kamworor in 59:07.

Next up for Pollock is a 10,00m on the track in Stanford, California in a few weeks time. His big target this year is the marathon at the European Championships in Zurich.

Edinburgh-based Nicola Duncan, who was making her international debut for Ireland, was forced to drop out only 800m into the race with a hamstring tear.

MARIA MCCAMBRIDGE  of DSD showed a welcome return to form when she finished first woman at the  Spar Omagh Half Marathon. McCambridge was out on her own from the start and finished in 76 mins 41 secs. In second place was Karen Alexander of Sperrin Harriers in 84 mins 52 secs.

First overall was Annadale’s Eddie McGinley who took over in front at 11 miles and finished in a personal best 66 mins 26 secs.  Gary Murray of St Malachy’s made a welcome comeback to finish second ahead of Clonliffe’s Gary O’Hanlon and Declan  Reed of City of Derry. KENNETH Rogers and Barbara Cleary were the winners of the Eamonn  Moloney Run for Life 10km  in Ennis. Cleary’s time of 34 mins 20 secs saw her finish fifth overall and put her over two minutes ahead of Orla Drumm from Crusaders.

ALLAN BOGLE of City of Derry did brilliantly to win the Donard Challenge on a misty, moisty day  in the Mournes – the opening round of the British Fell Running Championships.

AT THE Woodie’s DIY National Juvenile Indoor Relays, eight records  fell on the lightning fast Athlone track.
