Updated: O’Neill and Britton Lead 3,500 at Remembrance Run. Plus Leinster Inter C-C

Breandan O’Neill and Fionnuala Britton led home an entry of over  three and a half thousand people at  the third annual Remembrance Runphoto 6 5km in the Phoenix Park- a unique event for this time of year where family and friends look to the past and remember loved ones.

AT THE LEINSTER Intermediate Cross-Country, Rachael Smyth pf St Coca’s was a clear winner of the women’s race; Sharon Grant of Portlaoise was second and Niamh Donnelly of  Celtic DCH  third. Celtic DCH was first team,  with Liffey Valley second and Kilmore third.

Harry Lupton of Portlaoise won the men’s race by over a minute.  In a fierce battled for second place, Stephen Hunter from St Michael’s just edged out James McAssey of St LO’T.  Liffey Valley led by Damien Cauvet in seventh place was first team; Sli Cualann was second and Donore third. ELLIE HARTNETT and Kevin Maunsell were the winners in the BHAA Bank of Ireland Cross-Country at the Alsaa. Tom Hayes and Brian Maher were second and third in the men’s race. Adrianna Melia and Anna Sadowska were second and third of the women.

KATIE KIRK had not yet transferred her allegiance from Team GB to Ireland, although she is certainly considering it. Kirk won the national 800m at Santry last July. While the women’s 800m in GB is very strong, that may be a good reason for an athlete of Kirk’s talent staying put. Here’s what she said four days ago through the medium of Twitter: “Just to clarify: considering and no documents signed yet” . We’d love to have her of course!

ENTRY FOR THE John Treacy 10-Mile in Dungarvan  on February 1 has already reached its 2,000 limit. Details of how to enter the 38th annual Ballycotton ’10’ on Sunday Mary 8 (1.30) now at www.ballycottonrunning.net.

THE SETANTA FILM on the Dublin Marathon will be screened on Friday at 19.45 and not Thursday as previously advertised. That’s 18 days after the marathon took place. The film, a half hour in length, features commentary and script from Frank Greally.
