O’Hanlon and Curley win Longford Marathon. Rogers, Sinha tops at Dublin City Triathlon.

Clonliffe’s Gary O’Hanlon and Pauline Curley of Tullamore Harriers were the winners of the Pat the Baker Longford Marathon today. Curley had won the Tullamore Half Marathon  yesterday.  Freddy Sittuk of Raheny was second of the men. Race founder Liam Fenelon also completed the course.Winners of the half marathon were James Doran and Adele Walsh. Close to 900 were in action in a series of races. BRYAN MCMAHON OF Clonliffe and Sarah McCormack of Munster IMRA, both of them experienced Irish international mountain runners, were the winners of the 33rd Warrior’s Run 15km up Knocknarea from  Strandhill, in Co Sligo yesterday.  McCormack finished eight overall. Finishing a fighting second of the men was Donore Harrier John Travers. Triathlete Heather Foley was second of the women. The  race starts with a 4km road run from Strandhill, followed by a lung-busting 2.5km to the top of Knocknarea followed by a trecaherous descent and then  6km road run back to Strandhill.

SHERCOCK’S Jade Williams won the W17 hammer with a throw of 59.77m at the England Athletics U17/U15 Championships. Sean Mockler of Moycarky Coolcroo was second M17 hammer with 67.35m, while Jude McCrossan of Lifford Strabane was third M15 hammer with 46.40. At the ISTAF Meet in Berlin, Kerry O’Flaherty finished 13th in the steeplechase with a time of 10:08.75.

Super sprint – men’s winners

ALASTAIR ROGERS  and Natasha Sinha made it a British double at the Super Series draft-legal race held at the annual Vodafone Dublin City Triathlon, held in and around Islandbridge and the Phoenix Park this morning. Leeds-based Rogers, who was born in Galway,  finished second last year.
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar finished the race in a time of 1hr 39mins and 36secs.
First woman in the standard or Olympic distance event was Olympic rower Sinead Lynch whose time of 2:15.26 for the 1500m swim, 40km cycle and 10km run put her eleven minutes clear of  the chasers. Overall winner was James Hoare in 2:06.06, with Conor Tiernan second in 2:08.28.

Winning the men’s non-drafting sprint distance race was David Coyle, with Bruce Campbell second and Brian Tiernan third. First woman was Emma Porter, with Niamh Curran second and Karen Phelan third. In the sprint relay, Team Despacito were not only the first women’s team but also first overall.
Winning the Aquabike event were John Howlett and Siobhan Forman. Over 1,100 took part in the day’s event.
