New Year’s Day wins for Bermingham and Cleary

Raheny’s Daire Bermingham  and Barbara Cleary of Donore were the winners of the Tom Brennan New Year’s Day 5km in the Phoenix Park today. Bermingham finished in a time of 15 mins 23 secs beating Peter Arthur of host club Liffey Valley  by twelve seconds.  Cleary finished well clear of the chasers in 17 mins  10 secs. Raheny proved best of the men’s teams winning the Tom Brennan Memorial Trophy, while  Liffey Valley won the women’s team trophy.

KEITH FALLON and Kathryn Casserly made it a Galway City Harriers doubles at the Resolution Run 5km in Galway. Fallon finished in 16 mins 7 secs and Casserly in 18:51.

ON SATURDAY, City of Derry’s Catherine Whoriskey was first woman at the Lough 5 in the village of Loughmacrory, near Omagh, Co Tyrone. Whoriskey finished in 28 mins 7 secs, with Letterkenny’s Annmarie McGlynn second in 28.21.
