McCambridge tops at Dublin ‘Half’. Clohisey, McCormack win in Blackrock

Maria McCambridge

Maria McCambridge of DSD made a winning return to the roads when she finished first woman at this morning’s SSE Airtricity Dublin Half Marathon held in Donabate.

McCambridge’s time of 82 mins 26 secs was not fast, but will be a considerable confidence booster before next month’s Dublin Marathon. Second was Raheny’s Tara Kennedy Monks.

Overall winner of the race was Ethiopian visitor Berekat Gebraslase in a time of 66 mins 54 secs. Gebraslase, on his first visit outside Ethiopia,   moved to the front after a slow start over the first two miles when he got caught behind the “masses”. He went through 10km on the hilly course  in 31 mins 44 secs and hopes to return to Dublin for next month’s marathon. Behind him came Valdas Dopolskas  of Balbriggan and District in 67 mins 11 secs, while  finishing third in only his second run over the distance was John Coghlan of MSB who finished third in in 68 mins 56  secs.

As suspected, other big names aiming for the Dublin Marathon did not show, most of them having already run half marathons in the past few weeks and others targeting next weekend’s Cardiff Half Marathon.

MICK CLOHISEY  and Fionnuala McCormack were the winners at the  Stephen Carroll/Capt Mark Duffy Memorial 4-Mile held in  Blackrock Village, Co Louth.  McCormack’s time of  21 mins 10  secs was a new course record. Emma Mitchell of QUB was second and Catherina McKiernan third.
