Mullingar’s Martin Fagan made a low-key comeback to racing when he won the Coralstown 5km last Wednesday evening in a hand time of 14 mins 45 secs (thanks Evan Scully).
Fagan, who has served a two-year ban for a doping offence, hopes to compete in this year’s Airtricity Dublin Marathon. Peter Mooney and Kevin Baker battled it to the line for the next two positions, finishing in 15:55 and 15.57. Declan Fahy 16.13, Malcolm McDonald 16.16 and Mark Carroll 16.16 made up the top six.. * Highlight of the opening Dublin Graded Track and Field meet of the season in Santry was a men’s 3000m that attracted 50 entries, with Dunleer’s Darragh Greene a clear winner in 8:24.09. There was also an exceptional throw of 67.97m in the hammer by Adam King of Iveragh. Nadia Power of Templeogue AC, who is also in action at schools competitions thsi week, won the 800m, beating her St Mac Dara’s team mate Carla Sweeney.
