Lizzie PB in Barcelona ‘Half”. Mageean makes Euro Qualifying time. Treacy wins British Indoor 3km.

Leevale’s Lizzie Lee ran a personal best 74 mins 05 when finishing second in today’s Barcelona Half Marathon in Spain. At ten miles Lee was on target for a 72:30 time, but the return of a calf niggle she suffered last December saw her reduced to a limp for the final three miles. On a perfect day for distance running, Florence Kiplagat won the race in a world record time of 65 mins 7 secs – after Lizzie had helped her pin on her race number!

Of the Irish men, Raheny’s Mick Clohisey ran 64 mins 40 secs but Sean Hehir of RathfarnhamFullSizeRender 2 WSAF was forced to pull out at eight miles.

AT THE MILLROSE GAMES in New York, Ciara Mageean  of UCD ran a time of 8.55.09  to finish seventh in the 3000m. The time is comfortably inside the European Indoors qualifying time of 9 mins. Also in the USA, Kevin Batt of DSD ran a time of 7:51.87 for 3000m.

IN SHEFFIELD, at the British Indoors, Sara Treacy of Dunboyne won the 3000m in a personal best 9:06.27, outsprinting Englands’s Emilie Gorecka who finished in 9:06.27. Maria McCambridge of DSD was fifth in 9:14.99 and Newcastle’s Kerry O’Flaherty seventh in 9:19.51.   In the 1500m, DSD’s  Claire Tarplee finished third in 4:15.65, while in the 60m, Phil Healy of Bandon was thirdin 7.47 secs, while Lisburn’s Amy Foster  was seventh in 7.54 seconds.

Paul Pollock  of Annadale Striders  was eighth in the men’s 3000m in of 8:13.53, followed by DSD’s Brendan O’Neill  tenth in the personal best 8:16.70.

FERRYBANK’S Andrew Connick and Grace McConnell of Ballyroan Abbeyleix were the winners of the Bausch and Lomb 4-Mile in Kilmacthomas. Bantry’s Alan O’Shea was first home at the Tommy Ryan Memorial 5-Mile, organisedby Eagle AC in Carrigaline. The women’s race ended in a dead heat between Laoise Ni Thuama and Helen Leonard.

EMMETT Dunleavy and Emma Donlon were the winners at the Garda BHAA Cross-Country races in Dublin’s Phoenix Park.
