Lucy McAlister, who runs with Bristol AC, but appears to have Irish nationality, finished 5th in today’s Stockholm Marathon with a time of 2 hours 41 minutes. That puts her second behind Nicola Duncan on this year’s Irish rankings.
McAlister, aged 36 and a mother of two, is a a former UK international athlete who ran 17:51.5 for 5000m as far back as the year 2000. She ran 2:36.26 to win the Austin Marathon in Texas in 2008, while her half marathon best of 73.41 was set at the Bath Half Marathon in 2011 when she was hoping to make the British team for the London Olympics. Earlier this year, she won the South West Inter-Counties Cross-Country title. She warmed up for today’s race, her first marathon in three years, by running 35 mins 49 secs in the BUPA London 10,000m last Sunday.
Two other recent times worth noting: Sarah Mulligan of DSD ran 34 mins 45 secs for 10km in Manchester a fortnight ago, while Jenny Jagger, another experienced Bristol athlete who seems to have Irish connections, finished ninth in the BUPA London 10,000m last Sunday in 34 mins 52 secs.
