A number of Irish athletes are heading for Sheffield this weekend where they will compete in the British Athletics Indoor Championships.
After opening her season with a 7.40 second win at the Open Indoor Games last weekend, Lisburn’s Amy Foster, who ran 7.40 secs last weekend in Athlone, goes in the 60m. Richard Morrissey of Crusaders, with a time of 47.84 secs already this season, has entered the 400m.
UCD’s Sarah Lavin runs in the 60m hurdles, Kelly Proper of Ferrybank goes in the long jump while Niamh Whelan, also Ferrybank, will run the 200m.
Roseanne Galligan of Newbridge, who ran run 2 mins 3.69 secs for 800m recently, has entered the 1500m, along with Eleanor Alexander; DSD’s Claire Tarplee with a 1500m time of 4:14.61 this season drops down to 800m. Sarah Treacy of Moynalvy will run the 3000m, while Raheny Zoe Brown goes in the pole vault.
Paul Pollock of Annadale Striders, Ennis’s Rory Chesser and Conor Bradley of City of Derry have all entered the 3000m. Mark Patterson has signed up for the 800m, while Michael Dowling, Danny Mooney and Eoin Pierce all go in the 1500m.
Qualifying marks for the World Indoors next month are: Women – 60m 7.32; 200m 53.15; 800m 2:03; 1500 4:14; 3000m 9:02; 60m H 8.16; long jump 6.70m; pole vault 4.71m. Men – 400m 46.80; 1500m 3:41; 3000m 7:52.00 (outdoors 7:42; or 13:15 for 5000m)
