Indoors: English to Lead Irish Team (updated)

LIN_6894European 800m bronze medal winner t Mark English will lead a 12-strong Irish team at the European Indoor Championships in Prague next week.

Clonliffe’s Irish-American Declan Murray will join him in the 800m, while and English’s UCD teammate Ciara Everard goes in the women’s 800m where she hoped to repeat her performance of two years ago when she made the final.

John Travers (Donore) and Danny Mooney (Letterkenny) are selected for the 1500m, Paul Pollock of Annadale for the 3000m, Clonlifffe’s Dara Kerwick for the 400m; Gerard O’Donnell of Carrick-on-Shannon for the 60m hurdles and Crusader Adam McMullen for the long jump.

Selected originally for the 400m relay squad were Timmy Crowe of Clonliffe, Ferrybank’s Paul Murphy and Harry Purcell of Trim, along with Mark English. However with Murphy pulling out injured, Brandon Arrey of Blarney Inniscarra has taken his place. Arrey finished 4th in the 400m at the Glo Health Indoors last weekend in a personal best 48.81 secs.

Men – 400m: Dara Kervick (Conliffe), 800m: Mark English (UCD); Declan Murray (Clonliffe), 1500m John Travers (Donore); Danny Mooney (Letterkenny), 60m H: Ger O’Donnell (Carrick-on Shannon), 3000m: Paul Pollock (Annadale), Long Jump: Adam McMullen (Crusaders). 4x400m English, Kervick, Timmy Crowe (Clonliffe), P Murphy (Ferrybank) , Harry Purcell (Trim).

Women – 800m. Ciara Everard (UCD).
