Lisburn’s Amy Foster missed out on World Indoors qualification by one-hundredth of a second when she ran a time of 7.33 secs to finish fourth in the women’s 60m at the opening day of the British Indoors in Sheffield.
Foster had steadily improved on her time running 7.36 secs in her heat and 7.35 secs in the semi-final.
In the women’s pole vault, Raheny’s Zoe Brown was off her best when she finished third with a vault of 4.16m having failed at 4.26m. Katie Kirk of Lagan Valley finished a close third in the 800m in a time of 2:06.76; she had run 2:06.38 in her heat. Clare Tarplee of DSD finished second in her heat in 2:08.39, but failed to qualify for the final.
Paul Pollock of Annadale ran a personal best time of 8:09.54 when finishing sixth in the 3000m. Pollock had led at 2000m, but it was Andy Vernon of Aldershot who came home a clear winner.
In the women’s 1500m, the final race of the day, Rose-Anne Galligan of Newbridge finished fourth in 4:21.80. Galligan early on in the race going through 800m in 2:16.01. Winner was Newquay’s Jemma Simpson in 4:14.68.
* Kieron Peters (Star of the Sea) and Elaine Byrne led home 190 finishers at the first Ardgillen Parkrun.
