First World Record for Athlone – and Joe Gough

Joe Sun 10 MarchWest Waterford’s Joe Gough broke the over 60 world record for 800m when he ran a time of  2 mins 14.06 secs at the Leinster Indoors in Athlone.  His time broke the existing best of  2:14.23 held by Horace Grant of the USA.

Gough will now go down in the history books are the first athlete to set a world record on the lightning fast track at Athlone IT.  He already holds the M60  Irish (Masters Indoors Athlone 2:14.48) and European ( San Sebastian Spain Masters Championships  2:14.65) records.  Next up for Gough is the World Masters Indoors in Budapest at the end of March where he will compete in the 800m and 1500m.
