Mary Cullen of North Sligo ran a superb 15 mins 23.12 secs to finish fourth in the invitational 5000m at the Mount Sac meet in California. This was not far off her personal best of 15:18.34 set indoors in 2009; Cullen has also run 15:19.04 outdoors. In the same race, DSD’s Ava Hutchinson ran a personal best 15:51.49 for 15th place.
Ferrybank’s Shane Quinn finished fourth in one of the 5000m races with a time of 13:48.90.
* Niamh Whelan of Ferrybank scored and early season victory over Togher’s Marian Hefferan when she won the 200m at the Leevale Open Sports in Cork. Whelan’s time of 24.89 put her comfortably clear of Heffernan on 25.07. Kelly Proper of Ferrybank was third in 25.37.
Marcus Lawler of SLOT won the men’s 00m in 11.07, beating David Hynes of Menapians who ran 11.09 and also took the 200m in 21.85. .
Siobhra O’Flaherty still a junior comfortably won the senior women’s 3000m in 10:06.17, with Niamh Roe second in 10:28.58.
Phil Healy of of Bandon won the women’s 100m with a time of 12.16 with sister Joan Healy 2nd in 12.19 and Sarah Lavin of Emerald third in 12.36. In the 100m hurdles, Lavin was a cleaar winner in 14.08, with Kelly Proper second. Ppoper was having a busy day – she also won the long jump with 5.91, and tied with Neasa Murphy for victory in the high jump.
Clonmel’s Sean Tobin clocked a time of 1:51.65 to win the 800masnd also won the mile in 4:20.01. In the 3000m, KCH’s Eoin Everard scored a solid victory over Leevale’s Mark Hanrahan; his winning time was 8:17.58. Kourosh Foroughi of Star of the Sea won the 1110m hurcles and the high jump.
