On a glorious autumn afternoon at the Magazine Hill in the Phoenix Park, Clare Sullivan of Rathfarnham WSAF and Clonliffe’s Cathal Doyle were the winners of the Dublin Novice Cross-Country titles.
First up was the women’s 4km race, with Sullivan part of a breakaway group that pushed to the front from the opening lap. Leading it out was schools steeplechase champion Alison Armstrong of Celtic DCH.
Armstrong faded to finish fourth with Sullivan producing a storming finish for victory over Helen Brouder and Noreen Brouder of Sportsworld. Sportworld finished best of the teams ahead of Raheny Shamrock and Clonliffe.
In the men’s 6km, Rossa Hurley of host club Donore (appropriately wearing No 1), was first to show, with Cathal Doyle of Clonliffe, Rathfarnham’s Robert Murphy and Vinnie McGuinness of Crusaders part of the chasing group of three. In a tough race, it was Doyle who prevailed with Murphy second and O’Hurley third ahead of McGuinness. Rathfarnham took the team title with Raheny Shamrock second and Crusaders third.
RONAN WOGAN and Andrea McGuinness made it a Bohermeen double at the Meath Novice Cross-Country held at the Broadmeadows Equestrian Centre near Ashbourne. Bohermeen won the women’s team title (team was McGuinness, Geraldine Gill, Brigid Daly, Martina Miskilly, Marion Morris) and was second of the men behind Dunshaughlin.
