Cows in St Luc

Am image from the sister Meabh (wouldn’t you know she was an artist and a brilliant one at that!) of cattle wandering up the road under the appartment at St Luc in the Val d’Anniviers in Switzerland (turn right in Sierre). My family has visited this area regularly for over two decades and come to love it and its warm and welcoming people.
Just above St Luc is Chandolin, at one time the highest inhabited village in European with no road access. It’s the first huge climb on the annual Sierre Zinal mountain race, in which our own Joan Flanagan came tenth a few years ago. It’s a race every self-respecting mountain runners should do at least once (along with the Matterhorn in the next valley) and usually takes place in early August.
