Tallaght`s Tom Fitzpatrick set a course record of 9 mins 5 secs at the the 124th Clonliffe “2” in Santry. Freddy Keron Sittuck of Raheny was six seconds behind for second, followed by Peter Somba from Project Kenya and Aaron Hanlon, who is home from the USA for the summer. First woman was Clonliffe`s Louise Reilly in 11 mins 16 secs.
THOMAS BARR of Ferrybank was just off his own Irish record when he ran 48.99 secs to finish third in the 400m hurdles at the Diamond League meet in Doha, Qatar. It was a first Diamond League meet for the Waterford athlete. Bershawn Jackson of the USA was first in 48.09 secs and Javier Culson second in 48.96 secs; both are Olympic bronze medal winners. A day earlier, Leevale’s Ciaran O Lionaird ran 3:41.04 for 10th in a 1500m race in Los Angeles.
