Ciobanu Sprints to Frank Duffy ’10’ win. McCambridge first woman. Plus results round-up

TIM_9988In a thrilling finish to the SSE Airtricity Frank Duffy 10 Mile, Clonliffe’s  Sergiu Ciobanu just held off the challenge of Thomas Fitzpatrick from Tallaght for victory. The pair were given an identical time of  49 mins 18 secs.  Third was Rathfarnham’s Sean Hehir in 50 mins 6 secs. First woman by some way was DSD’s Maria McCambridge.Maria was winning  for a fourth consecutive time and a sixth time in all. Her time of 55 mins 28 secs saw her place 18th overall – her highest ever in the race.

IAN CONROY of Raheny Shamrock was a comfortable winner of the annual Warrior’s Run in Strandhill, Co Sligo. Conroy’s time of  53 mins 32 secs put him over a minute  clear of Rathfarnham’s Barry Minnock. First woman was Heather Foley  in 67.26

FREDDY KERON SITTUK  won the Donegal Half Marathon held in rain-sodden Letterkenny. His time of 69 mins 51 secs put him over six minutes clear of Derry’s Conor Bradley, who just pipped local man Danny Mooney for second place.  In the women’s race, Natasha Adams of Letterkenny clocked an impressive winning time of 76 mins 33 secs. That puts her fifth on the current Irish list led by Leevale’s Lizzie Lee with 73 mins 27 secs.

CIARA MAGEEAN OF UCD ran a  personal best 4:07.31 to win the women’s A 1500m at the BMC in Solihull. That puts Mageean fifth on the all-time Irish list and would have been enough to see her make – at the very least -the semi-finals at the World Championships.  Emerald’s Amy O’Donoghue ran a personal best 4:23.28 for second place in the B race. In the men’s 5000m, Raheny’s Conor Dooney finished 5th in 14:15.63 – just off his PB of 14:15.54. DSD’s Brandon Hargreaves was 10th in 14:00.90. In the B race, Leevale’s Colm Sheahan ran 14:34.21 with Emmett Dunleavy of Sligo just behind him in 14:34.86.

RUSSELL White from Banbridge and Carolyn Hayes from Limerick won the Vodafone Dublin City Triathlon held in the Phoenix Park.

AT THE WORLD Championships, both Mark English in the 800m and Thomas Barr in the 400m hurdles went out at the semi-finals stages. English was fifth in his heat in 1:45.55  for 10th  overall while Barr was fourth in the first of three semi-finals in 48.71 – not far off his Irish record of 48.65 set in Rome earlier this year – and 11th overall. In the 20km walk, Alex Wright was disqualified.
