Mark Christie

Mark Christie of Mullingar lived up to his status as pre-race favourite by winning the Woodie’s DIY National Marathon in Dublin in 66 mins 9 secs. He was followed home by Rathfarnham’s Sean Hehir, Clonliffe veteran Gary O’Hanlon and Eoin Flynn, who flew in from his home in the Canaries to run – and clocked a personal best time of 67 mins 49 secs. In the team competition, Clonliffe beat Rathfarnham WSAF.

Winning the women’s title was Leevale’s Lizzie Lee in 74.48 with Gladys Ganiel O’Neill of North Belfast Harriers second with a personal best time of 75.09. Fiona Roche of Raheny Shamrock was third. With Claire McCarthy in fourth place, Leevale easily won the team title.

The race was run in conjunction with the Rock’n’Roll Half Marathon, an international American franchise which had come to Dublin for the first time.
