GRIFT

Waiting for the DART to pass at the Merrion Gates, saw a large graffito facing me (on the small hut beside the railway line) – GRIFT. So Charlie, you’re right and I suspect he’s the lad defacing most of the area. He’s known to the authorities and comes from a “good” family. From Gerry M: […]

Graffiti Update

Unfortunately the news on the graffiti in Blackrock Park is all bad – if you accept that local councils “haven’t the resources” to clean up graffiti, which usually appears after office hours. In a country awash with money, the poor dears can’t find the few bob necessary for CCTV cameras on vulnerable sites. After another […]

Orienteering in the Park

Had forgotten what a good sport orienteering is – athletics without the attitude. Brought Amalia, my 11-year-old niece, to the event in the Phoenix Park and she loved it. what she really liked was getting involved – she helped at the finish. That’s the thing with orienteering – everyone of all ages can get involved; […]

A short walk destroyed

Here are some images from the usually serene walk from Booterstown to Blackrock. Walls, the Martello tower, the truck, seats, the halting site, the band stand, even the children’s playground, are all defaced. Fortunately there are a few metres still untouched, so perhaps when the cretin comes back, they’ll catch him.

Our Man from the Council

I would love to have a pic for this but I don’t. Imagine if you will a cheery chappie standing outside your garden gate, armed with a metal rod topped off with a rounded piece of wood. This is stuck in a hole in the ground and our pal is bent over with an ear […]

The 25 seniors all had to sail 1720s – a boat designed by a Cork man and made in Tralee. The name refers to the founding year of the Royal Cork Yacht Club.On the high-powered rib we were aboad […]

Happy birthday Wael!

Meanwhile, back in Doha …It was our wonderful driver Wael’s 26th birthday last Sunday and the lads sprung him a suprise party, asking him to pick them up for a trip to the supermarket. Denis reports: “Wael’s surprise party went really well. He returned from Mecca two days ago bearing GIFTS for all of us; […]

BOOT CAMP IN THE BURREN

With a mixture of music and a running “boot camp” on the menu, a mixed group of Dublin athletes descended on the County Clare village of Quin last weekend to take part in the Seisuin na hEireann weekend, organised by our own Eileen Hassett, a mainstay of the Kiely’s “seisuin” in Donnybrook. By the time […]

Running in the Park

Suddenly the blog appeared again as I wanted it, and the buttons allowing me to post new entries re-emerged at the top of the page. These pictures are from the adidas Dublin Half Marathon in the Phoenix […]

Things which kept me sane

Things which have kept me sane here: 1 My iPod. Thank you especially Kathryn Tickell, June Tabor, Lucinda Williams, Randy Newman, Richard Thompson, Francis Cabrel, Damien Dempsey; musicians for every mood. 2 My guitar. Though have failed entirely to “get” Clapton’s “Signe”; and I know it’s simple. Can sing Martha Wainwright’s venomous “BMFA”, though whether […]
