Fionnuala Britton finished fifth at the Cross d l’Acier, held in Dunkerque, France today with her time of 24 mins 4 sec for the 6.65km course putting her 31 seconds behind the winner Senebere Teferi of Ethiopia. Current European cross-country champion 
Sophie Duarte of France was first European in 24.01, just making it home ahead of Britton. Meanwhile at the CrossCup in Belgium, Almensch Belete the Ethiopian who runs in Belgian colours, beat Dutch athlete Maureen Koster in a sprint for the line. In the UK, Gemma Steel looked impressively strong when winning the English trial race.

IN THE SEELEY CUP 10km in Belfast, Paul Pollock led home 848 finishers in a time of 30 mins 15 secs putting him almost a minute clear of the chasers led by Scott Rankin. Kerry O’Flaherty was first woman in 34 mins 41 secs.
