Sara Tracey of Dunboyne AC has gone under the Rio ’16 qualifying mark of 9 mins 45 secs for the women’s steeplechase for the second time in 12 days.
At the Karlstad GP in Sweden, Tracey finished third in 9:44.35 – marginally slower than the 9:44.14 she ran in Letterkenny and outside the time of 9 minute 44 seconds, which would have qualified her for the World Championships in Beijing next month.
Winning the race in a personal best 9:40.39 was Lennie Waite of Scotland. Waite had run 9:45.94 in Letterkenny. Her time qualified her not only for Rio for for the World Championships in Beijing. Second in 9:42.59 was Brigid Franek of the USA
