A good day’s running in Dunboyne where the entire six-race programme – miraculously – took only an hour to complete. Good news on a day that though fine, was very chilly indeed.
Biggest race of the day saw Pearse Christie of St Colmcille’s in Knocklyon leading home an entry of 120 boys in the minor race. Visiting school St Michael’s Enniskillen packed well to take team victory – their first of three.
In the junior girls’ race, first home was Nicola Duffy of local school St Peter’s. Naoise O Bradaigh of Colaiste Eoin won the junior boys’ race. Notable in these races were the cheers and encouragement given to the back markers, some of whom were struggling on the 1500m loop spread over two fields.
Inter and senior athletes ran together; Eileen Ni Scanlain (Col Iosagain) was overall winner and first senior in the girls’ race; Eleanor Garvey of St Oliver’s was first inter, followed by Moya McCabe from Ballymackenny, a new school based in Drogheda.
