Elizabeth Morland of Dunshaughlin proved the star of the Aviva Leinster Schools Indoor Combined Events Championships in Athlone when she won the inter girls’ competition with an Irish record score of 3702.
Morland earned a massive 927 points for her time of 8.92 in the hurdles, and also scored well in the high jump where she soared over 1.68 for 830 points. She proved the class of the field in the long jump picking up 712 points for a jump of 5.54 – almost a metre ahead of anyone else. The shot was her weakest event in terms of points, yet her 9.45m effort still saw her comfortably heading the table. In the 800m, she was the fastest of the day with a time of 2 mins 36 secs for 739 points.
Best score in the boys’ competition came from Mark Rogers of St Joseph’s Drogheda, with 3171 points. In the shot, Rogers’ throw of 13.03 was worth 669 points and he was also over 600 points in the hurdle, 200m and 800 and only slightly below in the long jump.
A record 180 took part in the competition.
