Joe Gough of West Waterford comfortably won his heat to move into tomorrow’s M60 final at the World Masters Indoors in Daegu, South Korea today. Gough clocked a time of 2 mins 37.09 secs, with Oleksander Lysenko of Ukraine the fastest qualifier in 2:28.46. In the M55 age group, Dunboyne’s Michael Cornyn also made it through to the finals, finishing third in heat 3 in 2:25.89.
Competing in the M55 60m final was Shane Sheridan of DSD, who finished fourth in 7.89 secs. Sheridan later lined out in the 200m and won his heat in 24.30 secs – the fourth fastest time of the day. Quickest was William Yelverton of the USA in 25.05 secs. Clonliffe’s Snezana Bechtina won her W35 200m heat in 25.92 secs and in the final, will face Carolina Garcia Garza of Spain who ran a time of 25.69 secs in her heat.
Ireland’s only medal winner today was Geraldine Finegan of NER who took bronze in the W50 javelin with a throw of 31.31m.
