One of the great pleasures of athletics is peering through results. Have you made the top 100? Did you beat an old rival? How did your pals run in relation to you? Yet for some reason, the Women’s Mini Marathon organisers deprive us of this pleasure by printing the names of finishers alphabetically.
Here are a few interesting facts about this year’s race (following a search on all the “Marys” who ran). About a thousand women ran a time of under 55 minutes; our old pal Mary O Colmain finished 958th in 54 mins 34 secs. Around 2,554 broke the hour; Shannon Butterly of Co Louth finished in 60 mins 8 secs. About 5,680 broke 70 minutes with Mary Callaghan finishing in 70.07. That’s good going. 
Drawing on these figures, we reckon around 6,000 women are competitive enough to want to see a proper result printed. We know that an increasingly number of women are joining clubs and running groups, mostly thanks to the popularity of Parkruns. They expect to see results published in order – as is standard.
So how about it mini marathon organisers?
