John Travers and Ciara Mageean were the winners of the 25th anniversary Jingle Bells 5k in the Phoenix Park, where almost 800 turned out despite the terrible weather.
Travers finished in 14 mins 44 secs, with Kevin Maunsell of Clonmel eleven seconds adrift for second place and Ferrybank’s Andrew Connick third. In a closely fought women’s race, Mageean’s time of 16 mins 16 secs put her six seconds clear of Riocht’s Laura Crowe with Mary Cullen of North Sligo four seconds behind again for third.
IN MUNSTER, Hurricane Desmond caused havoc, with both the Waterford Half Marathon and the Clonakility Waterfront Half Marathon cancelled. New date for Waterford is January 9.
