Mullingar’s Mark Christie showed a welcome return to form when he won the Eirgrid Dunboyne 4-Mile in 19 mins 10 secs, beating Clonliffe’s Mark Kenneally into second place. Tallaght’s Thomas Fitzpatrick was third and Liam Brady of Tullamore fourth. First woman was Sarah Treacy of Dunboyne, with Letterkenny’s Anne Marie McGlynn second and Catherina McKiernan third and first master. AT THE BERLIN Half Marathon Maria McCambridge finished sixth in 74 mins 25 secs. She went through 5km in 17 mins 19 secs, 10km in 35 mins exactly, and 15km in 52 mins 48 secs. Winner was Cynthia Chepchirchir Kosgei in 70 mins 52 secs, just four seconds ahead of her Kenya compatriot Elizabeta Cherono. At Charleville last September, McCambridge ran a personal best 72 mins 26 secs for the distance.
CLONLIFFE high jumper Liam Zamel-Paez finished second in the Australian National Championships in Brisbane with a height of 2.20m, just missing out at 2.28m.
OLYMPIC TRIATHLETE Aileen Reid finished 15th at the second round of the World Triathlon Series over a particularly brutal course in Auckland, New Zealand. Reid’s time of 2 hrs 13 mins 53 secs put her over four minutes behind American triathlete Gwen Jorgensen who was taking a tenth victory in the series. In the men’s race, Bryan Keane finished 42nd in 2:04.07, and Conor Murphy 48th in 2:06.38, with Ben Shaw dropping out. Winner was Britain’s Jonathon Brownlee in 1:55.26.
