Kevin Dooney of CBC Monkstown was an assured winner of the boys’ senior title at the Aviva Leinster Schools’ Cross-Country held in Santry, Dublin yesterday (Wed).
The defending champion made the pace from the start with only  Ian Guiden of St Aidan’s attempting to stay with him. Guiden paid a high price when he was caught by Mitchell Byrne of  Templeogue College and Cillian O Maonaigh of Colaiste Eoin, who finished second and third.

Continuing a schools’ winning streak that strteches back to 2009 was Siofra Cleirigh Buttner of Colaiste Iosagain who won the girls’ inter title for a second year.
In the girl’s senior race, Clar Nic Chartaigh of Colaiste Iosagain took her first Leinster cross-country title.
Putting in another assured performance to win the boys’  inter  race was Aaron O’Hanlon of St Mary’s Dundalk.

DSD women’s senior team

Dundrum South Dublin’s junior women finished third team at the European Clubs Cross-Country in Spain – one up on e year earlier. h Siofra Cleirigh Buttner  led the team home in sixth place, closely followed by Clare McCarthy 12th.
In the women’s senior race, marathon specialist Linda Byrne finished 11th. The  team finished a creditable fifth, despite lacking Aoife Culhane, who was ill, but will return for the National Intercounties.
The senior men’s team suffered when national champion Joe Sweeney, who had not recovered from a tough race in San Sebastian a week earlier, failed to finish the race. Killian Mooney 36th was best of the junior boys.  This was the first time a single club had represented Ireland in all four races. Note: excellent report by John Evevs on DSD website.
Laura Shaughnessy of Loughrea and Clonliffe’s Jayme Rossiter won the national inter titles in a mudfest at Lough Key Forest Park. Pauline Curley and Ciaran O’Doherty were first masters.
