Armagh’s Danielle Fegan and Ben Thistlewood of Leevale won a well attended Glo Health National Novice Cross-Country Championships in Santry. Fegan was part of a group of five that broke away on the second lap of the women’s race. She made her push on the last lap, with Mary-Anne O’Sullivan of Tinryland finishing a fighting second, and Corran’s Sara Doohan third. In the team race, Dundrum South Dublin beat a resurgent Dublin City Harriers by a single point.
In the men’s race, the back-markers were passed on the final lap, but Thistlewood made light of the problem and held off the challenge of Thomas Moran of Dunshaughlin and Kilkenny’s Thomas Hayes. Taking team god by two points was Leevale, with Donore packing well for second.
Annalee’s Clodagh O’Reilly won the W19 race, with Peter Lynch of KCH getting the better of Clonliffe’s Brian Flanagan for the M19 title.
GOOD TO see the number and variety of clubs represented. One singlet standing out was that of “Acorns” – a club formed only last April and based in the Cookstown Magherafelt area.
CLONLIFFE’S Sarah McCormack was in England last weekend, where she won the Great Langdale 10km outright. Her time of 33 mins 46 secs put her ten seconds clear of the first man – David Hamilton, who was also first master, and finished in 33 mins 56 secs.
