Maurice Timmins, a former president of the Business Houses Athletic Association had died.
Maurice, a late comer to athletics, was a staunch Raheny Shamrock member and will be remembered as a prodigious marathon runner, running close to 200 marathons. One of the most recent was in Siberia. In 2004, he ran his 100th marathon – 26 laps of St Stephen’s Green in Dublin. He achieved his ambition of running a marathon on all the continents and his latest project was to run a marathon in all 28 EU countries.
Maurice not only ran races, but gave a huge amount back to his sport, always happy to steward and help at events. He was one of the driving forces behind the BHAA and, last Saturday, was handing out flyers for the forthcoming AIB races at the Alsaa. He was also a supporter of the Irish Mountain Running Association. To his family and friends, particularly his three sisters, goes our condolences. May he rest in peace.
