Ciara Mageean of UCD made an impressive return to competition with a time of 4:08.32 – her second fastest ever – at the KBC Nacht in Heusden, Belgium last night. It’s by some way the fastest 1500m time run by an Irish female athlete this season so far and not far off the 4:07.45 Mageean ran at a BMC meet in Birmingham in August 2011. Mageean finished tenth in a race won by the Kenyan Beatrice Chepkoech in 4:03.28. Next up for her is the Morton International in Santry on Friday. In the 5000m, Mary Cullen of Sligo finished 12th in 15:26.46 a time that also tops the current rankings.
