Round-up: McCambridge DNF; Leinster Results

Maria McCambridge pulled up in the Frankfurt Marathon just after the half way mark. McCambridge went through 10km in 36 mins 10 secs and ran 17:53 for the third 5km in the race, which put her on target to break 2 hrs 33 mins.

Clearly something we_DCI6742 (1)nt wrong soon after with her time for the fourth 5km from 15km to 20km dropping dramatically to 18.28. She went through the half way point in 76 mins 34 secs, which meant she was still likely to break 2 hrs 34 mins. But then she stopped along with her DSD club mate John Eves who was running with her. Behind them husband Gary Crossan went through the halfway in 79 mins 28 secs and then dropped out just after the 25km mark. A minor injury caused when Maria had to side-step suddenly to avoid a dog was the  reason for her decision to drop out.

It left Sli Cualann’s Neil Wiktorski to finish best of the Irish in 2:30.15; his club-mate Gary Condon (M40) ran 2:33.07 after keeping pace with Maria until half way (76.26).

Liam Brady of Tullamore Harriers was on course for a time of around 2 hrs 26 mins, but suffered badly in the last 7km and finished in 2:31.02. Leevale’s Conor Mccauley 2:36.57 and John O’Connell (M35) 2:36.35 finished pretty much together..

Winner of the race was Sisay Kemma Kasaye in 2:06.26. The first woman was Gulume Tollesa of Ethiopia in 2:23:12 – a six minute PB. Germany’s Arne Gabius was fourth in a new German record of 2:08.33 while Russia’s Sardana Trofimova was fourth woman in 2:24.38.  Which proves that Europeans can run fast!

MICK TRAYNOR of Raheny Shamrock and Kilmore’s Jackie Carthy were the winners of the Leinster Masters’ Cross-Country Championships hotes by Na Fianna at Moyvalley Co Meath.  Rathfarnahme won the women’s team title with Newbridge best of the men. An impressive total of 19 women and 20 men’s teams had entered.  Winning the novice titles were  Marie Snell of Newbridge and Ballyfin’s Colin Maher, with the Dunboyen women and the Celbridge men taking the team honours. The event saw the launch of a new race timing company – My Run Results, run by  Ronan and Lucy,  previously employed by Precision Timing before its collapse. We wish them the very best of luck.
