Rathfarnham’s Sean Hehir and Sarah Mulligan of DSD made it a Dublin double at the 36th annual Rockford Roof Tiles 4-Mile, held in Tinryland, just outside Carlow town. Hehir was overall winner of the race in 19 mins 25 secs. Slieve Gullion’s Paddy Hamilton was forty seconds behind in second place with Brian Kirwan of St Laurence O’Toole’s third.
In the women’s race, Mulligan’s time of 22 mins 31 secs put her almost a minute clear of Raheny’s Maria O’Sullivan, with Annette Kealy, also Raheny, third and first master. There was an impressive run by Tommy Payne of the host club who finished first M55 and ninth overall.
KEVIN ENGLISH and Sonia O’Sullivan were the winners at the Great Pink Run in the Phoenix Park, which attracted well over 3,000 fun runners.
AT THE TULLAMORE HALF MARATHON Leevale’s Chris Harrington and Lisa Murphy of St Michael’s were the winners, with 640 finishers in all.
RAHENY’S IAN CONROY won hill running’s world championships trial in Crone Wood, Co Wicklow. No senior women turned out, although England-based Sarah McCormack will lead the team at the World Championships in Betws-y-Coed, north Wales next month. In the trial for the British and Irish Junior International to take place on the same day at the World Championships, 15-year-old Alex Hunter of Ratoath led from the start. Cian May of Celbridge AC and 3ROC was second and Ballyroan’s Cian McDonald third. First junior girl was Eva Roche with Lara Gillespie second but too young for selection this year.
