Dundrum South Dublin’s women won a fifth consecutive title at the Glo Health National Track and Field League final in wind-swept Tullamore. Leevale chased DSD hard – as they had done two years ago- and had more individual winners, but the Dublin club picked up points across the board and that told in the end.
On a day when collecting points was far more important that times, marathon woman Maria McCambridge finished second in the 3000m and later third in the 800m. Javelin thrower Anita White managed a surprise victory in the shot, as well as winning her specialist event, while Sinead Denny won the 200m, was second in the 400m and anchored the 4x400m to second place behind Leevale. There were also a number of third places, all adding to the DSD total.
Clonliffe managed to pick up a number of wins in an impressive all round performance to regain the title after a lapse of two years. Among the winners for the club were Chris Zibanda 200m, Timmy Crowe 400m, Declan Murray 800m, Ian Rogers pole vault, Antonio Fernandez 110m hurdles and Justin Jadluai javelin. Clonliffe finished their day with a comprehensive victory in the 4x400m, where Brian Gregan had an easy job as anchor man. Tipperary County were the winners of Division 1 women and Kilkenny City Harriers winners of Division 1 men.
