Kenyan visitor Freddy Keron Sittuk won the 21st Balla 10km in 31: 25, beating Sean Hehir’s 2012course record by 7 sec. Now based in Dublin, Freddy, who also visited Ireland last year, has been training with Raheny Shamrock AC after arriving here for the Belfast Marathon in May. In recent weeks, he has also won the Achill Half Marathon.
Mayo AC masters trio Ann Lennon, Mary Gleeson and Colette Tuohy dominated the women’s race, with Lennon pulling away in the final kilometre to win in 37 mins 49 secs – her best 10k time for a few years. The second race in the C&C Cellular Mayo AC Road League is the Ballina 10k Saturday August 10th 7pm. With thanks to Tom Hunt.
Civil Service Harriers turned out in force at the Griffeen Parkrun taking the top four places. In total, 872 runners of all ages and abilities lined out in the three Dublin Parkruns, which have transformed the local running scene, providing an attainable goal for all abilities. No longer does running mean marathons!
Good news is that Parkrun spreads to the west on Saturday September 14 with the first Westport Parkrun, while in the Dublin area, St Anne’s Park is planning its inaugural run for September 28.
