Britton, McCarthy Pre-Selected for European Team; Travers, Mulligan Win Dublin Titles

Fionnuala Britton has won the CrossCup cross-country in Belgium. Sarah Treacy was 4th, Anne Marie Larkin 8th and Laura Crowe 9th.  Siofra Cleirigh Buttner  was first junior.

In the men’s race, David McCarthy  was best of the Irish, finishing 4th.   Both Britton and McCarthy are now pre-selected for the European Cross-Country with the team to be finalised after the National Inter-Counties on Sunday week.

John Travers of Donore scored a brilliant win at the Dublin Cross-Country Championships  in St Anne’s Park, beating Stephen  Scullion of Clonliffe. Despite losing Colm Rooney when he went over on an ankle, Clonliffe beat host club Raheny for the team title.

Equally absorbing was the women’s race where old rivals Sarah Mulligan of DSD and Raheny’s Aoife Talty did  battle. Mulligan came home first while Raheny lost out on team gold by a single point to Clonliffe. Winners of the junior races were Mitchell Byrne of Rathfarnham WSAF and DSD’s Isabelle Odlum. With an impressive turn-out of young athletes, DSD won  both junior and both U18 team titles.
