Annadale’s Paul Pollock has won the Glo Health National Half Marathon in Dublin beating the defending champion Mick Clohisey of Raheny Shamrock. Pollock’s training partner Kevin Seaward of St Malachy’s was third and Leevale’s Mark Hanrahan fourth. At three miles, Pollock was part of a group of nine, with Clohisey pushing the pace, along with Mark Kenneally of Clonliffe, Mullingar’s Mark Christie and Tomas Fitzpatrick of Tallaght. Kenneally later dropped out and Clohisey pushed on. Only in the final half mile did Pollock, who had been coughing up phlegm for the previous few days, make his break for victory. Raheny retained the team title ahead of Rathfarnham WSAF and Leevale.
In the women’s race, Leevale’s Lizzie Lee led from the start and came home ahead of defending champion Sarah Mulligan of DSD. Leevale also won team gold ahead of Mayo and GCH.
