Sarah McCormack was an emphatic winner of the women’s race at the 40th Snowdon International in Llanberis, Wales yesterday. Last year, foul weather forced the organisers to shorten the race course for the first time in its history and McCormack came home a clear winner.
Yesterday she was equally dominant over the standard 10-mile route from Llanberis village to the summit of Snowdon and back. By the time she reached the summit in 53 mins 25 secs, she had almost three minutes to spare on England’s Lindsay Brindle. She finished in 80 mins 56 secs, with Brindle second in 84 mins 13 secs. In the men’s race, Cillian Mooney lead home the Irish team in 12th place, followed by Ian Conroy 16th and Andrew Annette 27th. SBR’s Bernard Fortune was first M45.
In less than two months time, nearby Bewys y Coed will host the World Championships.
