Martin Fagan of Mullingar Harriers ran a time of 2:16.09 at the Zurich Marathon – outside the qualifying mark of 2:15.30 set by Athletics Ireland for the World Championships. In Manchester, Eoin Callaghan of Star of the Sea ran a huge personal best time of 2:18.45 – six minutes faster than the 2:24 he ran in Rotterdam last year.
At the Great Edinburgh Run 10-Mile, Maria McCambridge of DSD finished third in 56 mins 21 secs. Winner was Jess Coulson of Stockport in 56:06; second was Rhona Auckland of Banchory Stonehaven in 56:12.
MARCUS Lawler, Matthew Behan and Elizabeth Moreland all made qualifying marks for the European U23 and Junior Championships at the Leevale meet at the CIT track in Cork. Moreland was first off with a time of 13.93 secs in the women’s 100m hurdles. Then it was the turn of Behan, who won the 110m hurdles after great rival Sam Healy clipped one of the barriers. Behan’s time of 13.99 secs was a new national junior record. Finally, Lawler won the 200m in 21.14 secs,
