For at least the second time in her career, Maria McCambridge of DSD was the outright winner of a road race, beating all the men in the Balbiggan 10km. Her time of 34 mins 58 secs put her well clear of second placed Hugh Cashell who finished in 35 mins 2 secs. McCambridge previously was the outright winner of the North West 10km (if memory serves). Other women to have won local road races outright include Lizzie Lee and Siobhan O’Doherty. In the associated half marathon, Ronan Hartnett was the winner, ahead of Ronan Dunphy and Gary Crossan.
Just two days after winning the St Patrick’s Festival 5km in Dublin, John Coghlan won the Streets of Portlaoise 5km. Recently crowned Irish universities cross-country champion Mary Ann O’Sullivan was first woman.
