Lagan Valley’s Katie Kirk proved the star of the night at the AIT International Grand Prix in Athlone last night.

She won the women’s 800m in 2:03.58 – two seconds off her previous best and inside qualification for the Commonwealth Game in Glasgow.

In the long jump, Kelly Proper of Ferrybank improved her her ow stadium record with a leap of 6.49m. She also won the women’s 60m in a personal best 7.44 secs.

Two other stadium records were set. Olympic decathlon champion Ashton Eaton from the USA won the flat sprint in 6.69 seconds, while Britain’s Alex Al-Ameen clocked 7.97 secs for the 60m hurdles.
