Lagan Valley’s Katie Kirk proved the star of the night at the AIT International Grand Prix in Athlone last night.
She won the women’s 800m in 2:03.58 – two seconds off her previous best and inside qualification for the Commonwealth Game in Glasgow.
In the long jump, Kelly Proper of Ferrybank improved her her ow stadium record with a leap of 6.49m. She also won the women’s 60m in a personal best 7.44 secs.
Two other stadium records were set. Olympic decathlon champion Ashton Eaton from the USA won the flat sprint in 6.69 seconds, while Britain’s Alex Al-Ameen clocked 7.97 secs for the 60m hurdles.
A sub-four minute mile at the stadium remains elusive however with Kilkenny’s Eoin Everard winning the Eamonn Coghlan Mile in 4:03.08.
