Cleirigh Buttner Just Misses Medals (plus results)

DSD’s Siofra Cleirigh Buttner finished fourth in the junior women’s race at the European Clubs Cross-Country in Castellon Spain. 
Buttner lost out on a medal by just one second finishing in 13 mins 48 secs. Winner was Silvana Dias of Uniao Desportiva de Varzea in 13 mins 34 secs.  Clare McCarthy was second of the DSD team finishing 19th, followed by Megan Ryan 23rd, Sorcha Humphries 24th, Sarah Miles 25th and Sarah Fitzpatrick 28th. DSD was 5th team.
Ava Hutchinson in 9th position was best of the DSD senior women’s team, closely followed by Linda Byrne 11th, followed by  Sarah Mulligan 47th Niamh Devlin 51st, and Fiona Clinton 52nd. Hiwot Ayalew, running for Turkish  club Istanbul,  was the race winner.
In the senior men’s race,  Sergiu Ciobanu led Clonlffie home in 36th place. 
* Peter Matthews of DSD regained the men’s title at the Woodie’s DIY Irish Masters’ Cross-Country in Derry, beating local man Declan Reed and previous champion David Morwood of Annadale. Raheny, led home by Mick Traynor, 5th and 1st M45,  was first team.  Pauline Curley of Tullamore won the women’s race for a fifth time since 2006. 
Letterkenny’s Chris Johnston won the inter men’s race, with Raheny’s Maria O’Sullivan first woman.
* Caroline Conway of Sportsworld won a closely-fought final round of the Women’s Meet and Train Winter League in Lucan.
